LIRA or Linangan sa Imahen, Retorika at Anyo, the oldest and premiere organization of poets who write in Filipino, signs up a memorandum of agreement(MOA) with FILCOLS last 6 December 2011 at the Sizzlers’ Blends, Mezzanine, Shoppes @ Victoria #78 Timog Ave. cor. Panay Ave., Quezon City.
LIRA was celebrating its 26th Anniversary and the graduation of the LIRA poetry clinic fellows for this year. The fellows also launched their collection of poetry entitled Salamisim that night. FILCOLS provided assistance to the fellows in getting an ISBN for Salamisim from the National Library.
The MOA states that the members of LIRA automatically becomes regular FILCOLS members and they will receive the benefits of a FILCOLS member such as:
a. assistance in seeking permission from other authors or publishers to use the latter’s works.
b. information on copyright, intellectual property and other related issues.
c. access to contact details of publisher-members.
d. assistance in dealing with publisher-members.
e. Once the First Party starts collecting licensing fees from its licensees, the First Party shall distribute the payments to its members in accordance with the results of the survey of works photocopied during the year.
f. updates about writing or publishing opportunities from other organizations or agencies.
g. Certificate of Membership.
h. assistance in procuring ISBN and Certificate of Copyright Registration from the National Library.
i. assistance in seeking the help or legal advice from the Intellectual Property Office.
j. invitation and free entrance to the First Party’s event.
LIRA is the first organization of writers to sign up with FILCOLS for the automatic membership MOA. It has over a hundred members who are mostly published poets. It is represented by FILCOLS Member Phillip Kimpo, Jr. He is on his second term as the president of LIRA.
