FILCOLS Board Member Abdon Balde, Jr. wins 2011 Writers Prize from NCCA

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) through its Plans, Project Formulation and Program Division (P/PFPD)-Institutional Programs, announced the results of the final judging of the 2011 NCCA Writers Prize which was held on December 8 at the NCCA Bldg in Intramuros, Manila. This year’s winners were:

Novel (Cebuano language) Telesforo Sungkit Jr. for his novel entitled Ang Agalon sa Mga Balod. This is Sungkit’s second time to win in the NCCA Writers Prize. His first novel Mga Gapnod sa Kamad-an, also in Cebuano, won in 2007. The novel will soon be serialized in the Bisaya Magazine.

Poetry (Waray language) Janis Claire Salvacion, for her entry Lalay Han Tagdangkan. Salvacion is with the National Maritime Polytechnic of Cabalawan, Tacloban City.

Short Story (Panay language) Alice Tan Gonzales or her entry Alimango Kag Iban Pa Nga Sugilanon. Gonzales is with the Humanities Division, UP Visayas, Miag-ao, Iloilo.

Essay (Bicolano language) Engr. Abdon Balde Jr. for his entry SA Runa Kan Ibalong Paghaman sa Epikong Bikolnon. Balde is a retired engineer and has taken up a new profession of being a professional writer.

Awarding ceremonies shall be held in February 2012 in time for the celebration of the Philippine Arts Festival
