National Workshop named after FILCOLS Member Rogelio Sicat now accepts application

The Palihang Rogelio Sicat (PRS) now accepts applications to its fifth annual creative writing workshop in Filipino. The Department of Filipino and Philippine Literature spearheads the workshop in cooperation with the Marinduque State College. It is the national writers workshop exclusive to authors writing in Filipino, the national language. It will be held on 16 – 20 May 2012 in Marinduque. Previous PRS workshop venues include Angono, Rizal; Palayan, Nueva Ecija; Baler, Aurora; and Alfonso, Cavite

Edgardo Maranan leads the teaching panel. He is a poet, essayist, fictionist, playwright, writer of children’s stories, in both English and Filipino. He has won 33 Palanca Award prizes, the highest number garnered by any Filipino author. Workshop faculty members include workshop co-directors Reuel Aguila and Jimmuel Naval, along with Marne Kilates, Bernadette Neri, and Will Ortiz.

Interested parties must submit any of the following: five (5) poems, or two (2) short stories (10 – 15 pages), or two (2) stories for children; two (2) creative non-fiction pieces or essays (10 – 15 pages); along with a bionote, photograph (2x2, colored). Manuscripts must be in 12 points, Arial, double-spaced, 8x11 size format.

Fifteen (15) writing fellows will be chosen. The workshop is all expenses paid, including transportation from UP Diliman to the venue. Fellows will be given a modest stipend.
