FILCOLS members Raul Funilas, Pia Montalban and Mark Angeles celebrate 9th year of their organization

In an event entitled KM9, progressive poetry group Kilometer 64 will celebrate its nine years this March 13, Tuesday, with a poetry reading and book launch at Conspiracy Garden Café in Visayas Avenue, Quezon City.

Created by social activist, painter and poet Rustum Gil Casia as an online group in Manila and then later on co-moderated with poet and journalist, Alexander Martin Remollino, the group is known for its hard-hitting and red-blooded poetry published through several chapbooks that tackle pressing social issues in the Philippines.

On its anniversary celebration, the group will launch its second book, Mga Panahon sa Hacienda Luisita, a support to the struggles of more than 4,000 farmworkers in the disputed hacienda owned by the family of the current president, Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III.

Kilometer 64’s membership had peaked at 900 and has followings local and overseas. Among its known members are sculptor, poet and FILCOLS member Raul “Tata Raul” Funilas, Kristoffer Berse, Palanca-awardee and FILCOLS Member Mark Angeles, and former political detainee Axel Pinpin. Today, it boasts of chapters in Southern Tagalog and Central Luzon
