Copyright: Empowering the Research University

We are pleased to announce that on Jan. 21, 2011 from 1:30pm to 4:30pm, a forum about intellectual property, copyright, research and education will be held at the Seminar Room 408, 4/F Yuchengco Building of De la Salle University, Taft Avenue, Manila.


The heads and deans of colleges and departments in DLSU Manila will be attending.


One of the aims of the forum is to introduce the concept of collective management societies and reproduction rights organizations such as FILCOLS to the education sector and how they can help universities become top research institutions in the country.


Opening Remarks will be delivered by Dr. Jesusa M. Marco, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and Learning of DLSU Manila.


Paul Wee, the chief executive officer of Copyright Licensing and Administration Society of Singapore (CLASS) will talk about Singapore Experience.


While Karen Pitt, the general counsel of Australia's Copyright Agency Limited (CAL) will share CAL's experiences from her country.


Alvin Buenaventura, the Executive Director of Filipinas Copyright Licensing Society,
Inc.(FILCOLS) will present the proposal of FILCOLS, the Philippines' national RRO.


Open Forum will follow. It will be moderated by Atty. Christopher Cruz, Director, DLSU Manila IP Office. During the open forum, speakers will be joined by Atty. Andrea Pasion-Flores, Executive Director, National Book Development Board; and Atty. Louie Andrew C. Calvario, Head, Copyright Services Support, Intellectual Property of the Philippines (IPO PHL).


Closing Remarks will be delivered by Atty. Louie Andrew C. Calvario of the IPO PHL.


FILCOLS receives support from the Norwegian Copyright Development Association (NORCODE) and Kopinor. NORCODE is an international copyright development group funded by five copyright societies namely KOPINOR, GRAMO, TONO, BONO and NORWACO. KOPINOR is the reproduction rights (RRO) of Norway while FILCOLS is the RRO of the Philippines.
