Madz leads August line-up of `Art 2 Art'

The multi-awarded Philippine Madrigal Singers – popularly known as the “Madz” – ushers in another round of interesting episodes on Art 2 Art for the month of August.

In the episode airing on August 4, Art 2 Art host Lisa Macuja welcomes the Madrigals, led by choir master Mark Anthony Carpio, as they hold a mini-concert of familiar favorites. The group, which is marking its 50th anniversary this year, also shares news about the first Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival to be held in the Philippines August 7 to 10, in honor of their founder, the late National Artist Andrea Veneracion.

On August 11, for Art 2 Art's Buwan ng Wika episode, poet/ scriptwriter Jerry Gracio shares his insights on writing – whether it is for a script for a teleserye or a film or for a short story or a poem. A commissioner for the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino, he also discusses some of the current issues relating to language.

On August 18, musical theater artists Jett Pangan and Kakki Teodoro talk about Pamana, a docu-musical tribute to Ninoy and Cory Aquino, where they play lead roles. The play is written by Rody Vera, with music by Fr. Manoling Francisco and Ryan Cayabyab.

On August 25, Davao-based jewelry and furniture designer Ann Pamintuan relates how, even without formal training in design, she was able to help put the Philippines in the international map with creations using indigenous materials.

Produced by the Manila Broadcasting Company, Art 2 Art airs every Sunday, 3:30 to 4 p.m., on DZRH (666 khz on the AM band) and on cable television via RHTV. It can also be viewed simultaneously on the Internet through DZRH Live Streaming at www.dzrh.com.ph.

Good Night, Lala for intermediate readers launched

Good Night, Lala, a collection of short stories for intermediate readers, was formally launched in a private event on July 25, 2013. This foray into a new line for older kids is a testament to Adarna House’s commitment to serve Filipino readers’ growing interests and reading achievements.

Written by Corazon Ordoñez-Calica and edited by her daughter Maya O. Calica, Good Night, Lala is set against the backdrop of Pampanga during the Japanese Occupation. Young Corazon finds that wartime, though thoroughly dangerous, can also be a chance for wonderful adventures and enchanting experiences.
These adventures and experiences were once the stories Corazon, lovingly called Lala by her grandchildren, told during bedtime. They are now to be found in this book, to be shared and cherished by readers, young and old.
Good Night, Lala is available at a book store near you and from Adarna House. For inquiries, contact (02) 352-6765.

Composer Vehnee Saturno shares rags-to-riches story in `Art 2 Art'

For multi-awarded composer Vehnee Saturno, it was no easy climb to the top. His career choice initially frowned upon by his mother, he persevered to win her approval and coped with rejections before establishing himself as a hitmaker – with such popular songs as Be My LadySana Kahit Minsan and Till My Heartaches End to his name.

Saturno shares his inspirational rags-to-riches story in the July 21 episode of Art 2 Art. Hosted by prima ballerina Lisa Macuja and produced by the Manila Broadcasting Company, Art 2 Art airs every Sunday, 3:30 to 4 p.m., on DZRH (666 khz on the AM band) and on cable television via RHTV. It can also be viewed simultaneously on the Internet through DZRH Live Streaming at www.dzrh.com.ph.

On July 7, Art 2 Art welcomes respected poet, literary critic and professor Gemino Abad as he recounts his journey into the world of words. The founder of the Philippine Literary Arts Council also recites two of his poems from memory, to Macuja's amazement.

On July 14, graphic designer and book illustrator Beth Parrocha-Doctolero guests in an episode marking National Children's Book Day. A founding member of Ilustrador ng Kabataan or INK, she has illustrated and designed over 50 books, most of them for kids.

On July 28, Art 2 Art pays tribute to the late Angono artist, Jose “Pitok” Blanco. Acknowledged as a “master of Philippine genre,” Blanco rendered folk themes, Filipino traditions and nature scenes in his massive murals. Michael and Joy Blanco recall their father's life and times, and how – through his example and encouragement – they came to be celebrated as Angono's premier family of artists.

Art 2 Art was recently named as Best Radio Program for Culture and the Arts at the Golden Dove Awards given out by the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas.

For inquiries, please e-mail art2artdzrh@yahoo.com.ph. On Facebook, check out the account Ballerina ng Bayan for updates on Art 2 Art episodes.
