Launching of FILCOLS Member from Pangasinan Santiago Villafania's Book April 28

Pinabli and Other Poems (published by C & E Publishing for De La Salle University), a collection of Pangasinan poems with selected translations in Filipino, English, and Spanish will be launched on April 28, 5.pm, at the Solidaridad Bookshop in Padre Faura, Ermita, Manila.

The Philippine Center of PEN International sponsors the launching by holding it during its regular general meeting on the last Saturday of the month. Villafania is a board member of Philippine PEN.

Dr. Florangel Rosario Braid wrote in her introduction that Villafania’s rise to become the most outstanding Pangasinan poet today is phenomenal. His writings demonstrate a more than usual keen sense of observation about the human nature and the environment around him. Pinabli and Other Poems consists of over 200 anlongs mostly deal with love, which he describes in a language full of imagery and lyricism.

Santiago B. Villafania, a bilingual Filipino poet who writes in English and in his native language of Pangasinan, is the author of poetry collections Malagilion: Sonnets tan Villanelles (a finalist for Best Book of Poetry in the 27th National Book Awards), and Balikas na Caboloan (Voices from Caboloan, 2005) published by the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA) under its UBOD New Authors Series. He has been published in several countries and translated into several languages.

Villafania is one of the 11 Outstanding Pangasinan conferred with the 2010 Asna Award for the Arts and Culture (literature) during the first Agew na Pangasinan and also the 430th Foundation Day of the province on April 2010.
