FILCOLS @ GUMIL Filipinas National Conference in La Union




FILCOLS’ Beverly Siy delivered a talk on authors’ economic rights last 21 April 2012 at the 44th National Conference and Literary Seminar-Workshop of GUMIL Filipinas. It was held at the Audiovisual Room of Don Mariano Marcos State University, North La Union Campus, Bacnotan, La Union. After her talk, Siy, the Executive Officer for Membership and Documentation of FILCOLS, distributed membership forms and invited everyone to join FILCOLS. The response was very positive.

The said conference lasted from April 20-22. It featured book launchings, cultural night, lectures, cultural presentations, contests and awarding ceremonies. More than two hundred authors, professors and students from the northern part of the country and from all over the Philippines graced the occasion. GUMIL Filipinas chapters GUMIL Cagayan, GUMIL La Union, GUMIL Pangasinan, GUMIL Metro Manila, GUMIL Ilokos Norte, GUMIL Abra, GUMIL Isabela and GUMIL Hawaii sent their representatives to the event too.

Other invited speakers were Dir. Emelita V. Almosara, the Executive Director of National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Dr. Ricardo Ma. Duran Nolasco, professor from the College of Linguistics, University of the Philippines Diliman and Atty. Concepcion H. Luis, Commissioner, Iluko, Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino.

The theme was: Ang Manunulat Bilang Guro. This event was organized by GUMIL Filipinas headed by Judge Vivencio Baclig (ret.) in coordination with National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
