The highlight of the event was the crowning of Ka Bien with laurel leaves cast in metal as the People’s Teacher and Artist. The laurel wreath, a symbolism often alluded to another great Filipino writer Francisco Baltazar, represents Ka Bien’s important contributions to Filipino literature and society. Soprano Lorna Llames sang “Alay kay Bien,” a song written in honor of the great artist.
