FILCOLS' Chair Isagani Cruz, Treasurer Lirio P. Sandoval and members of the secretariat Beverly Siy and Napoleon Almonte attended the inauguration of the Korea Copyright Commission (KCC) in the Philippines last May 10, 2012 at the Mandarin Ballroom, Mandarin Oriental Manila Hotel, Makati Avenue, Makati.
Graced by more than 100 individuals involved in intellectual property, copyright and the publishing industry both from the private and government sector, the inauguration was a success! Dubbed as the Korea-Philippines Copyright Exchange Night, the program started with congratulatory messages from KCC Chairman Mr. Byonh han-Yu, Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Mr. He min-Lee, National Library of the Philippines Director Atty. Antonio Santos, Ministry of Culture and Tourism Copyright Department Chief Mr. Hyung rae-Cho and Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines Director General Atty. Ricardo Blancaflor.
Prof. Fernando Tanguey of University of Santo Tomas led everyone to pray for the success of KCC in the Philippines. KCC Team Leader Mr. Jang sung-Hwan followed and introduced the functions of the Manila Center of the KCC.
Up next was the introduction about Korea-Philippines advisory organs of KCC. The speakers invited everyone to join the group. It is open to students and professionals specializing in IP and copyright. Corporate membership is also entertained.
Two cultural presentations followed while dinner was being served.
According to Chairman Yu in his message printed in the KCC promotional material: Copyright, which backs up the contents industry in cultural competition, is indisputably a source of national wealth and the hope for the future. KCC is striving continuously to create a better culture for legitimate use of copyrighted materials and help develop the copyright industry with international help from copyright organizations all over the world as a global copyright organization.
