All events, except for the MIBF, will be held at the Adarna House Showroom, which is open Mondays through Saturdays, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

FILCOLS Member Adarna House Accepts Manuscript and Portfolio Submissions All Year Round!

Freelance Authors and Illustrators

We accept manuscript and portfolio submissions all year round. Submissions are open to anyone, the only requirement is your submission. More details can be found on our FAQs page.

To try out for authorship, submit three (3) copies of your original manuscript typewritten on short bond paper accompanied by a one-page literary bio-data. On the first page of the manuscript, indicate its genre (short story, nonfiction, poetry, etc.) and the literary contest/s it has won, if any.

Address your submissions to Ani Almario, Product Development Manager, ADARNA HOUSE, Scout Torillo corner Scout Fernandez Sts, Brgy Sacred Heart, Quezon City 1103. Submissions have to be accompanied by a self-addressed, self-stamped envelope to facilitate responses after being screened. Manuscripts may be dropped off at our showroom, or sent through post. No manuscript submissions may be sent over e-mail.

For those who want to illustrate one of our books, send us your resume and two (2) or more sample works representative of your style in illustration. If you have more than one style of illustration, 2 or more sample works of these other styles will suffice. Artists should take note though that Adarna looks for artists with a unique and consistent illustration style. Email your submissions to Eli Camacho (eli[at]adarna.com.ph) with "Adarna Book Illustration Application" on the subject field.

LAMPARA BOOKS BARES CHILDREN’S STORY WRITING WINNERS

"Sinemadyika," by Lauren V. Macaraeg, won first prize in the 1st Annual Lampara Books Children’s Story Writing Contest, winning for its author, an AB Interdisciplinary Studies graduate of Ateneo de Manila University, a cash prize of Php30,00.00. Second prize, with a cash prize of Php15,000.00, went to "Susie Simangot" by Mark Anthony Angeles, a BA Journalism graduate of Polytechnic University of the Philippines and currently a technical support representative with Convergys Philippines, while the third prize, with a cash prize of Php10,000.00 went to "Prince of the Cranes"by Marites Rogado, an AB Political Science graduate of the University of the East and currently taking her MA in Creative Writing at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
The contest was sponsored by Lampara Publishing House, Inc. (LPHI).
The three winners were chosen from a field of 178 entries, with 30 entries disqualified due to lack of requirements, by a board of judges composed of:
Ms. Becky Bravo, award-winning author of children’s stories and editor-writer-translator at LPHI;
Ms. Edith Garcia, editor at LPHI and editor-in-chief at LPHI’s sister company, Precious Pages Corporation (PPC);
Mr. Joen Chionglo, film and television scriptwriter and head of LPHI art department; and Boots S. Agbayani-Pastor, award-winning film scriptwriter and writer-editor-translator at LPHI.
LPHI and PPC president and general manager, Mr. Segundo Matias, Jr. congratulates the winners.

FILCOLS Member Adarna House is in need of an Artist

Job description:
The position will report to the Product Development Head and will assist in conceptualizing, designing, encoding, preparing layout and illustration for company products in line with the company’s strategic and annual plans. The specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conceptualize and design artwork for company products and collaterals
- Encode, layout, and prepare illustrations for company products
- Ensure high quality and consistency of all reprints
- Assist in the review of manuscripts submitted to the company for publication
Requirements:
Candidates should have the following minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, Marketing, Advertising, or related field
- Preferably with at least one year experience in advertising or in a creative department; but talented fresh graduates are encouraged to apply
- Good interpersonal skills; basic English communication skills
- Knowledgeable in publications design; preferably proficient in InDesign software
- Must be a team-player

19th Iligan National Writers Workshop (INWW)

The Mindanao Creative Writers Group, Inc., and the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology’s Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension (OVCRE) are accepting applications from writers to the 19th Iligan National Writers Workshop (INWW) to be held on May 14-18, 2012 in Iligan City.

Panelists this year are Erlinda Kintanar Alburo, Leoncio P. Deriada, Merlie M. Alunan, German V. Gervacio, Steven Patrick C. Fernandez, Ralph Semino Galan, J. Neil Garcia, John Iremil Teodoro and Christine Godinez-Ortega and this year’s keynote speaker, Victor N. Sugbo.

Fifteen (15) slots, five each from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and one (1) slot each for the Manuel T. Buenafe Writing Fellowship (MTBWF) and the Ricardo Jorge S. Caluen Bursary for Creative Writing or a total of 17 slots are available for writing fellowships to the 19th INWW.

Applicants are required to submit five poems, or, one short story, excerpt of a novel, or, a one-act play in Filipino, English or in Sebuano, Hiligaynon, Kinaray-a, Waray, Chabacano (with English or Filipino translations) along with the applicant’s biodata, two 2X2 photos and a certification that his/her work is original. Please submit a hard copy and a CD with the manuscripts encoded in MS Word. Those submitting excerpts of novels or works-in-progress -- please provide a one page summary of the novel. Unpublished works are preferred and applicants who have attended regional workshops are given priority.

Writing fellows will be given free board and lodging and a travel allowance. Applications must be postmarked on or before March 30, 2012. No applications or manuscripts will be accepted if sent by fax or e-mail. Applicants are also advised to keep copies of their manuscripts since these will not be returned. Announcements of this year’s writing fellows are released during the third week of April 2012.
